What is Reiki?
Some may give a simple answer to this, and while there is an “official” definition, as someone who has been on both the receiving and giving end of this amazing healing modality, I believe the answer is much more complex. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word, Rei, which means “Universal Life,” and Ki, which means “Energy.” The traditional definition of reiki is that it is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. However, both my experience as a client and a practitioner, far exceed this simple definition.
There seems to be an amazing alignment that occurs for each person who allows themselves the experience of reiki over time, even a short amount of it. Just as we have a physical body which includes many systems, we also have an energetic body, as all is composed of energy. Similarly, just as it is vitally important that our physical body systems are clear of blockages and able to function effectively, the same is true of our energetic body. We know that reiki helps clear the energetic pathways to bring balance and healthy functioning to this energetic body thereby positively impacting our healthy functioning and healing physically, emotionally, mentally and in all ways.
This resulting alignment seems to also bring into our awareness the treatments, supports, resources and action steps and more that would be of most benefit to us at any given time. Always safe, and always focused on what anyone needs at the specific time of a treatment, reiki truly is miraculous and one of the most life-changing healing modalities I have ever encountered.
